The Van Doren Rubber Company was unique in that it manufactured shoes and sold them directly to the public. On their first morning, 12 customers purchased Vans deck shoes — now famously known as the Authentic. The classic skate brand dynamically grew throughout the 70's and 80's and has helped the sport of skateboarding conquer the world.
Style 36, the second skate shoe ever created by Vans, debuted in 1977. It was the first Vans shoe to feature the iconic Sidestripe™ (also known as the “Jazz Stripe”) and would cement its place in footwear history.
