<h3><span color="red" style="color: #990000;">Sarracenia x excellens Seeds</span></h3> <p><b>Ease to Grow:</b> Easy.<br> <b>Dormancy:</b> Recommended.<br> <b>Parental Native Range:</b> Wet Pocosins of Northern Florida.<br> <b>Zones:</b> 6-8 (5-9).</p> <p><i>Sarracenia x excellens</i> is a rare, naturally occurring hybrid, <i>S. leucophylla x minor</i> with tall, erect multi-colored pitchers accented with rows of white areole (windows) and a heavy network of scarlet red and purple veins. The hoods are broad and undulating with ruffled margins. They are tinted a pinkish red, and arch over the trap opening. It is a vigorous grower and forms large full colonies. As with other <i>S. leucophylla</i> hybrids, it has a nice show of Spring pitchers, but a great show of large, vigorous and stout Fall pitchers. <i>S. x excellens</i> prefers open, sunny, boggy conditions, and holds its color into the frost. The orange to reddish-orange are unusual for a pitcher plants. The flowers are fragrant, and bloom mid-season. This is an excellent accent plant for the bog garden, and is very showy in large numbers. This hybrid was named in 1885 after its "excellent" appearance.</p> <p>Seed Packs are fresh harvested in Fall, and stored refrigerated. Seed count is approximate, but reliable.</p> <p>Note: Stratification<span data-mce-fragment="1"> is required to prepare seeds for germination. </span>All seeds are produced from open pollination within our collection. Some cross pollination may occur, and seed offspring may or may not be true to mother plant, though not likely with this species. Growing carnivorous plants from seeds is best suited for the experienced and patient grower.
