From Wine Enthusiast's 2011 European Wine Star Awards Winery of the Year, we've got the Gerard Bertrand Cotes des Roses Rose. The bottom of the bottle was designed by a young French designer, and looks like a rose in full bloom. This Rose isn't just functional, it's beautiful too. Think hostess gift... We had a little Rose-off in the office, and this bottle won hands down. We then had it with gingery salmon burgers for dinner and liked it even more! Fill your glasses and enjoy them with toasted rounds of baguette slathered with either black olive tapenade or anchovy butter. Prosciutto and melon is another terrific starter that will bring out the lovely fruit and floral notes of the wine. Salads, chicken, fish, and seafood, both raw and cooked, and a lot more will pair easily with the fresh nature, red fruit, citrus and beautiful balance of this Cotes des Roses. Try grilling chicken and serving it with a garlic/basil aioli on the side. If there's good lobster to be had, serve up some lobster BLT's on toasted brioche buns and watch them disappear. A red curry of shrimp will also work well, ladeled over light, fluffy jasmine rice. All that will be left is to stick a fork in you, winelovers, because you'll be done!
Winery: "A soft, pale, brilliant pink with bluish tints developing over time towards more orangey nuances. The bouquet releases aromas of summer fruits, cassis and redcurrant. Floral notes of rose along with hints of grapefruit complete the picture. The finish is fresh, offering notes of candy. On the palate the impression is fresh and full, with great aromatic persistence and balance. Cote des Roses celebrates the Mediterranean lifestyle. The Languedoc appellation stretches along the Mediterranean coast from the Spanish border as far as the city of Nimes, along the foothills of the Montagne Noire and the Ceevennes. The soils are highly varied, mainly with hard limestone and schist, but also gravel transported by the rivers of the Languedoc region. The warm, windy climate (“semi-arid Mediterranean climate with mild winters”) helps the grapes to ripen in good, healthy condition, while retaining all their fresher qualities thanks to the altitude and the influence of the sea which eases the scorching summer heat. The bottle is original with its base in the shape of a rose, created by a young designer from the Ecole Boulle. A wine to be given in the same way you would offer a bunch of roses!"
