Today’s wine took months for the deal to be finalized, but as with most things that are worth the wait, it comes from the very top shelf – a Russian River Valley Pinot Noir from 2023’s “vintage of a lifetime,” sourced from a legendary family that’s been a torchbearer for the region well over half a century (we can’t state the exact number of years for obvious reasons). As you know, our raison d'être is special occasion wines at everyday prices – this one clearly deserved the inaugural billing.
Lot 501 is a 100% estate-grown, single-vineyard Pinot Noir crafted by a highly decorated winemaker whose understanding of Russian River’s nuances is second to none. Made with all the nines and highly sought after by industry and enthusiast collectors alike, prices here start at $60/bottle, $720/case for a select few, and it only goes up from there. As mentioned, we waited out the deal patiently – conditions in the market eventually worked in our favor, allowing us to secure this for you for a fabulous deal. Pinot lovers rejoice!

The cooling effects from the Petaluma Gap were on full display during the 2023 growing season; our source’s vineyard near Sebastopol in the heart of the Russian River Valley was frequently blanketed in thick fog, with the cold nights and breezy days resulting in one of the longest growing seasons of the century. This tremendous weather, coupled with the region’s famous sandy loam soils, was a recipe for Pinot fruit that was just about perfect.
Our source has never swayed from their timeless, old-school approach. They picked by hand, sorted by hand, then de-stemmed before fermenting the grapes in open-top stainless steel tanks, performing punchdowns daily – yes, also by hand. The juice was settled into 100% French oak (40% new) for 10 months to accent the fruit's inherently divine terroir.
Bing cherries, blood orange, rose hips, and dried herbs envelop the nose. On the palate, strawberries and cherries are wrapped in tobacco leaf with a hint of potting soil, framed by medium+ acidity and small, dry, grippy tannins. The finish is enduring and barrel-kissed – uplifted spices accent vanilla bean with red berry umami. Perfect for the dinner table, perfect for holidays…perfect for just about any occasion.
