DescriptionInspired by sweatshirts from the 30's-50's, the Boxing Hoodie is cut from 15oz loopback cotton french terry and 1x1 rib. This high quality fabric was sourced from mills in Japan with a rich history dating back to the mid 19th century. The weight is perfect; not too heavy or too light, making it an ideal piece for year round wear. To pay tribute to true vintage, this piece incorporates a pointed rib cuff. All seams are finished with merrow edge overlock and double needle coverstitching, to ensure long lasting wear and durability. Not one detail of this piece was overlooked. One of the inspirations for this look that immediately comes to mind is the 1960’s photo series of Muhammad Ali, training for his three fights in London. He wears baggy sweatpants with a slight crop, paired with a hoodie featuring a very uncommon detail: the boxing glove pocket. This pocket was first introduced in the 1930’s by the sportswear company A.G. Spalding & Bros, a pioneer in knitwear manufacturing. To take these heritage garments a step further, we applied a series of embroideries, appliques, and prints with deep ties to boxing gyms and clothing issued by athletic departments. They feature an embroidered boxing poster on the back that may have been found hung up in a locker room. Additionally, they feature prints that mimic spray painted stencils commonly used to mark ownership of these garments.
