<p>The ZF310/ZF320 manual transmissions that come in E36 328i, M3, and E39 328i are known to wear out and form a "reverse" and "5th gear" lean. If you shifter does not center up properly and has a lot of slop this is most likely your issue. BMW has a service bulletin to replace the detents in your transmission. To accomplish this, we are now offering the detent service tool kit.
