Hi! I’m Mark, a passionate maths tutor with degrees from the University of Edinburgh ad the London School of Economics. I’ve been teaching maths online for three years and cover a range of courses, including AP Calc, IB Maths, and A-Level Maths. When I’m not tutoring, I work as a finance and economics journalist. I live in Colombia and primarily write about Latin American politics and economics. In my spare time, I love to paint and travel. I’ve been to over 30 countries, including Venezuela, Thailand, and India. I’ve tutored maths online for several years now, covering a range of topics from adding fractions to calculus, trigonometry, and statistics. Here’s an overview of some of the courses I offer and the students I’ve had for each of them: GCSE Maths: I’ve tutored 39 students in GCSE maths. 6 of my students were able to get a 9, 7 of my students wer enable to get an 8 and 7 were able to get a 7. 25 out of the 39 were able to improve on their predicted grades. A-Level Maths: I’ve tutored 51 students in A-Level maths. 12 of my students were able to achieve an A*. 11 were able to secure an A and 13 were able to secure a B. AP Calculus AB and BC: I’ve tutored 21 students in AP Calculus BC and 11 in AP Calculus BC. Of my students, 10 secured a 5, 12 secured a 4, and 28 out of the 32 students were able to get a higher grade than predicted. IB Mathematics: I’ve tutored 31 students in IB maths. Of my IB maths students, 8 secured a 7, 5 secured a 6, 10 secured a 5. 24 out of the 31 students achieved a grade higher than the one they were predicted to receive. I believe that anyone can understand maths given enough time and support. A lot of students struggle with the explanations they are given in the class and need one-on-one attention to succeed. I pride myself on being able to explain concepts in different ways to help each student understand the material. I give my students practice problems to work through in their own time. This allows us to go over more challenging problems in class rather than focusing on material they already understand.
