The jaws are spring loaded to the open position so as you open the jaws there is always tension. This prevents that floppy loose feeling and ensures the jaws are always square as you close them. The jaws are also magnetic so you can place your needles there for quick access! To use the clam you just place your leatherwork between the jaws and the tension when closed will firmly hold it in place, making it easier for hand stitching.
