Duke here, I wanted to give you all an update on my life with my foster mom and foster GSP sister, Reece. I will put it to you straight. I fear new people. I bark and I growl when you first come in to my home. I have become protective of my foster mom and this is another reason why I bark and growl at strangers. My foster mom has learned to put me out back first, then let the stranger meet me in the backyard. She has learned some tricks to help me adjust to a new life, new environment and new people. I will tell you that once you get to know me, I will love on you and be your best friend. And, if you give me treats when I meet you, it only takes about 5 minutes for me to trust you. After our first introduction, I am lovable, sweet, love to snuggle, great on a leash, listen sometimes and I do fairly well off leash running with my foster sister in the fields. I love splashing in the edge of a body of water. I’m not sure if I can swim so I do not go into the deep end. Birds do not interest me, but bugs do. I am not food aggressive and will not bite off your hand when you give me a treat. Also, I do love to go for a walk/run every day but after a little while I want to get back to my home. Scary people are outside. There was even this white thing across the street mowing the lawn and a person was not attached to it. Mom said it was robot lawnmower and to stop barking because it was not going to hurt me. Things like that make me want to stay in. My dog sitters think I am very cool and sweet. Carson, one of my sitters, commented that “Duke loves his snuggles and will not leave my side, while I was there. He loves his neck and belly rubbed and has fallen asleep while rubbing him. He is so sweet and easy.” Anna, my newest sitter, had this comment about me, “Duke is very easy going, loves his naps, going on walks and is super snuggly! He takes a minute to warm up but once he gets to know you, you have a friend in him.” I can be a counter surfer, so please don’t leave food out if it is something you really want. I have a good nose and will sniff out food on walks and in the home. I have free run of the house when my foster mom is gone. She has not kenneled me yet and I love it. Not that I do anything but sleep when she is gone. Being 6, I get a lot of naps in during the day. I’m not into to toys, only belly, neck, head, and butt rubs. My best home life would be with a couple/person only interested in having only me as their companion. If you must have another dog, I like females, who are around my age or older and very laid back. I’m not sure how I would do in a dog park or in a kennel. I would much prefer to be at home with my people. Check out my pics, I am a handsome boy. Thanks for reading my bio.
