A rare convent work Saint Peter Hand Painted Watercolor, from the second half of the 18th Century. Handcrafted by nuns or monks. The medallion to the center is a watercolor of Saint Peter holding a bible and crosier. A little pale and some painting loss due to age (1700s.), 250 years old. The watercolor is surrounded by several tiers made of gold wire, extremely intricate work. The first tier is adorned with white opaline glass beads, The monastery work is a web of gold wire in different motifs - countering, ribbons, thin wire. Lovely motifs of flowers, etc. it is done by nuns or monks and is unique but not perfect. There are a couple of stones that have come loose and are laying at the bottom of the frame. I am selling as is as I am not qualified to fix this very old piece. The black frame shows age traces and painting loss. Original (?), not sure. The back side is lined with old handmade paper but not original. Dimensions: Frame: 8.2” x 10” Nun Work: 5.2” x 6/6” Item # 8239
