Hand woven mestana cloth depicts the traditional Q’ero motifs in hand-spun fiber depicting the rayed diamond motif of Inti or the rising and setting sun. And the Inkarri, cultural hero and founder of the Inkas, in his human incarnation or his gradual regenerating forms. The wide black stripes represent life-giving Pachamama, and the alternating rainbow stripes represent the balance of all things. The two sides of the cloth are joined in the middle with alpaca stitch to represent the mayu or River of the Sky or Milky Way Finished with the traditional "eye stitch" which is said to have protective qualities.
