For the past decade, seventeen-year-old Norah Lukens has been more or less raising herself. Her adult guardian, Uncle Jack – a.k.a. Dr. Jack A. Lukens, Harvard's world-famous myth-chaser – has been gallivanting around the world in search of the world’s most famous myths. And more often than he’d like to admit, he proves these myths to be true. When Norah returns from boarding school to find her uncle's been mysteriously killed in their Boston home, leaving only an old research journal for clues as to why, her dreams seem farther out of reach than ever. Now all she has left in the world is her estranged best friend and neighbor James Riley, who she may or may not still be in love with. Unfortunately, James himself seems to be shrouded in mystery and secrets. Using her uncle's journal as a guide, Norah sets out on her own myth-chase to find answers. She’s soon plunged into a secret, ancient world of Icelandic myth. Here, magical stones are the answer for everything, giant fire-breathing bats could be hiding inside the body of even the kindest stranger, and pure love is stronger than death. Norah soon discovers that Uncle Jack's final myth-chase – tracking down the truth behind the ancient Legend of the Cobbogothians – may just hold the answers to all of her questions… including the ones about her own mysterious past.
