The artists paint their country where those stories belong.  Jessies landscapes beautifully communicate the rich knowledge she possesses of medicinal plants and country, the heart of her culture. Jessies has painted her country, Ampilatwatja. The brightly coloured flowers and small bushes are bush medicine and are still used within the community. Jessies predominant theme in her paintings is 'strong bush medicine', demonstrating a deep connection to her country. Her work pays homage to the significance and use of traditional bush medicine, allowing an insight into her community. Yet underneath the iridescent surface, there is an underlying sense that there is more to this landscape than meets the eye. In keeping with the religious laws, Jessie reveals only a small amount of knowledge to the uninitiated. About the Artists: The work produced by Artists of Ampilatwatja (pronounced um-blood-a-watch) is unique and recognisably distinct from other Aboriginal artistic communities.  The paintings pay homage to the significance and use of traditional bush medicine, allowing an insight into the community. They depict the traditional knowledge of dreaming and country through the translation of waterholes and soaks, bush medicines, mountains and sand hills. The artists predominantly paint Arreth (strong bush medicine), demonstrating their deep connection to country. A veritable source of life, the land has provided and sustained Alyawarr people for generations, as every plant and animal has a vital role to play within the ecological system. The beauty of the Artists of Ampilatwatja emerges from a close association with the land, passed down through generations.
