Akigalawood is all the rage at Givaudan right now. It is a captive molecule derived from the upcycling of waste from patchouli manufacturing and it has a profile which is peppery and woody and, as is to be expected given the starting material, distinctly patchouli like. It stars in such fragrances as Dark Rebel (2015) by Rodrigo Flores-Roux for Varvatos where it contributes both patchouli and pepper notes. It is also used in Tom Ford's Fougère d'Argent (2018) where it blends with lavender and tonka and features in Quentin Bisch's Purpose (2023) and Guidance (2023) both for Amouage. Akigala Extreme is our interpretation of the Akigalawood captive in the form of a base built around an extraordinary quality (and amount) of molecular distilled patchouli with accents of pepper and dank woods. Use Akigala Extreme in place of patchouli or as an entirely novel new earthy wood note.
