The name Chatelier is a tribute to the most distant origins of cognac. The first eau-de-vie of cognac were created on the west coast of its vineyards, historically it was local monks who developed the art of distillation. <p>In 1166, one of the oldest Cistercian monasteries was founded in the heart of the island, the Ile de Re. Its name: l'Abbaye des Chateliers.</p> <p>This unique place was for a long time the epicentre of the distillation of local wines by these learned monks.</p> <p>This is also how Alexandre Gabriel created Claude Chatelier Cognac in 1989.</p> <p>Claude Chatelier cognacs are distilled in small copper pot stills of 25 hectolitres according to ancient, traditional in-house methods.</p> <p>The cognac matures slowly in small French oak barrels in cool, damp cellars with beaten earth floors that promote its subtle transformation. The time-honoured mixing art of the cellar master gives this cognac its excellent balance.</p> <p>The Claude Chatelier VSOP is aged for over 8 years in limousine oak barrels.</p>
