ONI has been our holy grail brand from the very beginning, and we've finally been able to build a relationship with the brand and owner Masao Oishi. The brand is as old school and secretive as it appears. They use traditional construction methods to create low-tension, irregular, slubby denim that has a cult following. Their selvedge tickles the ancient part of our brain that makes us love denim so much. ONI does one thing and they do it to perfection. We can't wait to explore their wonderful world of fabric and fits with you guys. Our first ONI offering just so happens to be the denim that made them world famous. The 20oz Secret denim is known for its low tension and comfort. That's the real beauty of this selvage - it fades like a 20oz pair of denim without feeling like it. It's truly remarkable how light the fabric feels especially after they've given it a gentle Tempi wash. There is a bit of a twist with this iteration, however. They have created quite a mashup by combining the style of weaving with the details of the Kabuki fabric. The rope-dyed indigo is known for having a green tone (and trust us, it really does when it fades), while the Kabuki denim has a khaki-beige finish for the weft. You also get that incredible tri-tone selvedge ID. It's wild that this is our first offering from the brand as it just so happens to be the type of denim we love and wear on a daily basis.
