This ring is handcrafted with reclaimed teak wood from the Deck of the USS California BB 44 historic battleship sunk during Pearl Harbor Attack Dec. 7, 1941. She was sunk on Battleship Row and then re-floated and repaired getting back into battle in 1944. The ship was built in Vallejo, California at Mare Island in 1920. She became the Pacific Fleet Flagship from 1921 to 1941. Commissioned August 1921This teak is Burmese and was milled in the late 1800's. It is over 120 years old and cannot be replicated. This teak was specifically milled for US and British battleships. When Japan took over Burma during World War II the supply was cut off. The ship was salvaged in 1959 in Baltimore by Bethlehem Shipbuilders the company that scrapped the ship. Thankfully some of the wood was saved so we can make this ring. The teak deck was purchased during salvage by a businessman from Southern California. Our supplier purchased this deck from the original purchaser about ten years ago, he also happens to be a huge ww2 history buff, his mom and dad were both in the navy in WWII.  The value of the wood is very high because of the historic value and the rarity of the teak itself. Each piece is one of a kind and the teak has its own grain characteristics, wear from use and burn marks from battle, repair and salvage. Some pieces have plugs where deck was bolted to hull.
