Artis Gilmore Chicago Bulls 1976-77 Red Warm-Up Shirt

In 1976, the ABA–NBA merger left two ABA teams, the Kentucky Colonels and the Spirits of St. Louis, without a home in the new league, so the NBA held a dispersal draft to place their players. Chicago used the first overall pick to select Artis Gilmore, the Colonels' five-time ABA All-Star and reigning force in the middle, for a then-record $1.1 million. In his first Bulls season, 1976–77, Gilmore anchored the paint with 18.6 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks a game, instantly becoming the cornerstone of Chicago's frontcourt.
