The second expression of Old Commonwealth 10-Year. This exceptional 10-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon (sourced from a heritage distiller) has a mashbill of 75% corn, 15% rye, and 10% malted barley, and comes in at 120 proof. Nose: That beautiful deep copper hue hits you first, like sunset through a whiskey glass. This noses underproof, and the earthiness runs deep here, rich and grounding like good soil after rain. Floral notes brighten things, adding enough lift to keep everything vibrant. Tobacco adds depth without being heavy-handed, while subtle mineral notes give it backbone. Then vanilla buttercream frosting and stone fruit jam appear, sweet but not cloying. Palate: It’s a medium mouthfeel, rich and oily in that warming, comforting way that makes high proof whiskey worth the adventure (it drinks underproof, too). The aged oak shows with authority but doesn't throw its weight around. Hard butterscotch candies bring old-school sweetness, balanced by a slightly bitter baking chocolate note. A subtle mineral element adds some structure and tang. Finish: This isn't a quick goodbye; it's a slow fade that improves the longer it lingers. Dried tobacco takes the lead, bringing that earthy complexity, before stone fruit jam takes over for the grand finale.
