This second version made headlines in May 2022 when it sold at Christie's auction for an astounding $15.2 million – 25 times its high estimate of $200,000. The buyer was hedge fund manager and poker player Bill Perkins, who reportedly competed against Mellody Hobson, president of Dreamworks Animation, for the piece. The painting's influence extended far beyond the art world when it was featured in the closing credits of the television show "Good Times" (1974-1979), introducing Barnes's work to millions of viewers and cementing its place in popular culture.
