Note: English Ivy is toxic to cats and dogs if ingested — see our English Ivy toxicity guide for pet-safe alternatives.Looking for a trailing plant that earns its place? English Ivy stays green all year, tolerates shadier corners than most houseplants, and climbs or trails up to ten feet. It is genuinely low maintenance — enough to give you the country-manor look without the country-manor effort. Vigorous and fast-growing, English Ivy (Hedera helix) is a climbing vine in the Araliaceae family. Give it bright, indirect light and water when the top inch or two of soil is dry, and it will reward you with an evergreen, dense-leaved habit. It is resilient enough for most conditions and nearly any soil, though it prefers a rich loam with good drainage.
