0-0-7 Prodiamine WDG Pre-Measured Packets For Sprayers What you have here are (6) 20-gram packets (inside a larger pouch) of pre-measured prodiamine WDG (water-dispersible granule). The WDG formulation is dropped and mixed into water in your backpack sprayer to form a liquid spray pre-emergent. The primary target of prodiamine is crabgrass in the spring and Poa annua (annual bluegrass) in the fall. It will prevent other weeds, but it’s mainly sold for those two. Every single packet is 20 grams, and when you mix it into 4 gallons of water, you have the right dosage for a single application with no measuring or weighing required. Prodiamine WDG generally has variable rates, and we made this to match Yard Mastery strategies in our lawn care app, ebooks, and videos. In those strategies, we recommend 2 spring applications, known as a “split app” strategy, and either 1 or 2 in the fall depending upon grass type. Spring Application for ALL Grass Types In spring, you make 2 applications to prevent crabgrass. One comes in early spring as soil temps cross 50F heading to 55F. Drop a single packet into your 4-gallon sprayer and make your application to 4,000 sq ft of lawn area. Water it in after. At that time, mix in another packet with 4 gallons of water and once again, cover 4,000 sq ft. Water it in after. Now you are protected from crabgrass all during its growing window of later spring and summer. Fall Application for Kentucky Bluegrass and Ryegrass As soil temps fall to 70F coming out of summer, drop a single packet into 4 gallons of water and make your application to 4,000 sq ft of lawn area. This will help prevent Poa annua (annual bluegrass) heading into fall and winter, as well as a few other weeds such as henbit and bittercress. Water it in after. This is your final application of the season as you have reached your maximum allowable use for the calendar year. Kentucky Bluegrass and Ryegrass are allowed 3 total applications per the label in our strategies. Fall Application for Tall Fescue, St Augustine, Zoysia, Bermuda, Centipede, Bahia As soil temps fall to 70F coming out of summer, drop a single packet into 4 gallons of water and make your application. This will help prevent Poa annua (annual bluegrass) heading into fall and winter, as well as a few other weeds such as henbit. Water it in after. If you live further south, you will want to make one final application about 45-60 days later to protect you all through winter. This is primarily for areas where there is no snow cover and the lawn is exposed and dormant during December, January, and onward. Folks with bermudgrass in Georgia, for example, will see their lawns spotted with green bluegrass clumps during winter. A later application of prodiamine in October or November will help cut down on this condition. Once you have made this second fall application, you are done for the calendar year as you have reached your yearly maximum allowable “pounds on the ground” for prodiamine. You can start again the following calendar year in late winter or early spring again. Tall Fescue and the warm season grasses are allowed 4 total applications per the label per calendar year in our strategies. What If I Don’t Have 4,000 Sq Ft? We made these pre-measured prodiamine packets to work in 4-gallon sprayers but realize not everyone has 4,000 sq ft. of lawn area. If that is the case and you have, say, 3,000 sq ft, then you can break open one of the packets and weigh the product just like you had to do in the past when the only option you had was a full giant 5lb jug. In that case, you weigh out 5 grams of prodiamine for each 1,000 sq ft of lawn area. If you have 3,000 sq ft, you would break open a packet and weigh 15 grams of prodiamine, put that into your sprayer with 3 gallons of water, and spray your 3,000 sq ft. The application rate for every application, spring or fall, is 5 grams for each 1,000 sq ft of lawn area. Those 5 grams are mixed into 1 gallon of water, and that 1 gallon of spray mix covers 1,000 sq ft. That is the base measurement and application rate.
