More complex and, sadly, more restricted than Methyl Heptine Carbonate (MHC), the octine variant of this family is a lovely green and slightly fruity aroma chemical (in the direction of strawberry but not so pronounced as ethyl decine carbonate, another marvel) that lends its magic (which is effective in traces fortunately) to numerous fragrances such as Chanel's Coco Noir at 0.08%, and there is even a trace (0.001%) in Kurkdjian's Oud Satin Mood where it modifies a large dose of Methyl Ionone Gamma Coeur. Danute Pajaujis Anonis recomended its use in Fougère scents to bolster the green facets and, indeed, we see it prominently in the superstar of that genre, the original 1985 edition of Green Irish Tweed by Creed (our Compound Tweed). Methyl Octine Carbonate (MOC) works marvellously to temper the 10% dihydromyrcenol overdose of that same scent and in internal trials we have found the same to be very effective in smaller amounts in replicas of Abercrombie and Fitch's all-too-frequently (and wrongly) maligned Fierce (2002) by master perfumers Christophe Laudamiel and Bruno Jovanovic. Its ability to naturalise that chemical means it should be far more widely used today though (alas) fear of breaching IFRA or EU standards may make some perfumers reticent to approach it. Combined, your total finished fragrance load of Methyl Octine Carbonate and Methyl Heptine Carbonate is 0.047%, and because MOC is restricted to 0.01%, you can use the remaining 0.037% in MHC to fill the gap. Beyond that, IFRA and EU safe chemicals such as Undecavertol, Neofolione and Firmenich's wonderful Violettyne MIP fill the gap.
