WHFS 99.1 FM

WHFS was an alternative rock station serving both Baltimore and Washington D.C. Founded on November 11, 1961, the station, from the start, was quite adventurous in its music programming, settling into a progressive rock format in the late '60s. In 1983, the station switched to the stronger 99.1 frequency and upgraded its format to reflect the new wave and modern rock music of the time. Becoming one of the most popular and influential stations of its kind in North America, it remained an alternative rock station until 2005 when the format was abruptly switch to Tropical Latin music.
