Exaltenone® is one of the classic synthetic musks, valued for its ability to enhance the diffusion, depth, and longevity of a fragrance. Some perfumers even consider it superior to muscone (and muscone laevo), the natural musk ketone found in deer musk. Traces are all you need to get a real boost but this can be an overdose musk. To compare this product (which is usually liquid at room temperature but can solidify) and the very similarly named Exaltone [Cyclopentadecanone] we can say that Exaltone is more powdery, natural, and elegant with a focus on fixative strength, whereas Exaltenone is more powerful, opaque, and animalic, offering a creamier and robust musk note. Their differences make them suitable for slightly different roles in perfumery, and choosing between them depends on the desired scent profile and budget. Because it is costly we are also offering it diluted to 10% in DPG. Note: Firmenich refers to this product as CAS 35720-57-1 but it is also commonly referred to by the CAS 14595-54-1. The two are the same. Comparison to other Macrocyclic Musks Musk Fixation Strength Animalic Intensity Exaltone® High Moderate Warm, sweet, slightly animalic musk.
