Matcha Whisk - Kazuho Black Bamboo Chasen

This Kazuho (数穂) chasen is handmade from natural black bamboo (黒竹), offering a bold and elegant alternative to the traditional white version. With about 70–80 tines, it provides the same dependable balance of flexibility and durability, making it well-suited to both usucha (thin tea) and koicha (thick tea). Black bamboo is denser and firmer than white bamboo, giving the whisk a slightly stronger feel in hand. Traditionally less common, it is often chosen for its distinctive appearance and refined presence at the tea table. As with all chasen, its value lies in the craftsmanship and balance rather than sheer tine count. Each whisk is handmade, with natural variations in tone, spacing, and form that arise from both the artisan’s craft and the organic qualities of bamboo. Comes in a protective cylinder with silica gel for preservation.
