All three DiMaggio brothers (Joe, Vince, and Dom) played for the franchise. San Francisco native Lefty O'Doul managed the Seals for 17 seasons and even continued playing in games during the first half of his managerial career. In 1945 the team was bought by Paul Fagan, who planned to elevate the Seals to the major-league level. His plans never materialized, and the Seals played their final season in 1957 when the New York Giants announced their relocation to San Francisco. Hall of Fame alumni included Joe DiMaggio, Lefty Gomez, Paul Waner, Frank Malzone, and Earl Averill.
