The uniforms actually belonged to the San Francisco Cubs — a little-known team that rarely played in San Francisco and traveled the country year-round. When the Sea Lions joined the newly created West Coast Negro League in the NLB era, they purchased the Cubs' uniforms. While little information is available about either team, both the Sea Lions and Cubs were known to have toured Canada, where they played in several tournaments. From 1947 on, the Sea Lions were strictly a barnstorming team. Notable players included Bill Bruton and Toni Stone.
