This stunning Anglo Saxon and Viking (very) lang seax is a classic weapon from the 10th and 11th centuries and was a serious warriors secondary weapon. The blade is long for a lang seax, but is modelled very closely on the dimensions of the Seax of Beagnoth in the British Museum and is definitely more sword than knife. The blade is of the classic ‘broken back’ type that was very current in this period and thickens slightly from handle to the ‘break’ giving the knife/sword a tonne of authority. It has a long grip in ash and horn, decorated with dot and circle motifs and finished with brass details. The sheath is plated with etched brass plates and the sheath is carved and the whole piece comes with a very typical baldric and suspension system, again with brass fittings. A second belt was usually worn over the suspension to hold the weapon close to the body. A viciously beautiful piece. Sharp has been ground to give a reasonable cutting edge, but final honing, if required, is by the customer. If your colour of choice is out of stock, why not try a different colour.
