Description and usage notes: This is a fine quality of Geraniol made specifically for use in fine fragrances. It is a classic component of rose and geranium, widely used in both fine and functional fragrances. Occurs naturally in a vast range of flower scents as well as being present in fruit, herb and spice essential oils from acacia to ylang ylang as well as geranium. Arctander says: “One of the most frequently used perfume chemicals, this alcohol finds its way into all types of perfumes for all kinds of purposes … Although primarily a rose material, Geraniol is used generally as a sweet floral material of outstanding versatility. It forms conventionally a major part of most artificial YlangYlang bases, and is often included in creations of Peony, Sweet Pea, Frangipanni, Magnolia, etc. etc.”  Jean Claude Elena, in his book Diary of a Nose, suggests that in combination with beta-ionone, frambinone and fructone this material can contribute to an effective illusion of the smell of raspberries.  He says “Unlike cherries, which have more taste than smell, raspberries are all about smell ... Adding cis-3-hexenol gives a sour, green quality, while geraniol will give a taste of lipstick.” "
