Description and usage notes: Tenacious, dry, woody, cedar tone with a slight leathery quality.  A very effective fixative. This product takes the form of white crystals, and is also available as a liquid at 50% in IPM. Arctander describes it as having a: “Woody, slightly leathery odor with a somewhat earthy undertone. It bears a slight similarity to Vetiver acetate in this respect.”  Cedryl acetate is very useful for imparting a uniform woody note to a fragrance without adding the particular character of a woody essential oil (e.g Virginian or Atlas Cedar oil). It also lacks the terpenic top note that woody essential oils can sometimes have. Use alongside other woody materials to boost and extend the woody note without adding character; also useful to add a woody background to a different kind of fragrance where you don't want the wood note to be too prominent. It works very well in citrus, herbal and spicy formulations. Excellent for use in candle fragrances, alongside vertenex, to get a woody note without the wick-clogging effects of some resinous essential oils.
