Description and usage notes: This is a very powerful, diffusive material that takes some time to get into solution in ethanol and we recommend using at high dilution. Nicknamed Horse Acetate by this perfumer because of the pervasive smell when using it!   If you don't have good gloves and an automatic stirrer you may prefer to buy this pre-diluted: we now offer it at 10% in TEC. Despite that animalic quality this is an essential component of narcissus, lily and many other florals that adds great diffusion and sillage to the fragrance. Arctander tells us that it is: “Usually applied at less than 1% in the perfume composition, this ester should be carefully blended with highboiling or powerful odorants in order to achieve a pleasant effect. It performs well in Jasmin, Tuberose, Gardenia, Lily, Hyacinth, Narcissus and other floral and floral-green bases”. Fragrantica describe this note in perfumes as having ""a resemblance to sweet narcotic floral bouquet consisted of rose, narcissus, ylang-ylang, lily, hyacinth, narcissus, tuberose, lily-of-the-valley and so on. It also has a urine, medicinal, phenolic and honey like scent." We stock this material from generic manufacturers as well as from Givaudan so please check before buying if the provenance is important to you. It comes in the form of crystals that require careful handling and are quite difficult to dissolve in ethanol: a 5% solution is the practical maximum that can be made and if you are working in larger batches it is easier to add the solid and allow it to dissolve in the other ingredients of your perfume concentrate in the course of blending.
