Description and usage notes: Crystals of this widely used, clean, diffusive musk: one of the few early non-Nitro-musks that has stood the test of time and continues to be used extensively in modern perfumery. According to Scent and Chemistry, “Tonalide/Fixolide gives a very special accord with coumarin that is much desirable in constructing male fougere perfumes.” Like Galaxolide, Tonalid is perceived as pleasant smelling by almost everyone and is detectable by most people (many people find they cannot smell certain musks and this is one reason why musks are normally used in combination rather than singly in a composition). Tonalid is an excellent fixative and stable in most media.  Note that the chunky crystals of tonalid take a long time to get into solution: so if you don't have an automatic stirrer, you may prefer to buy it pre-dissolved via this product.
