Description and usage notes: Very good, versatile musk with some resemblance to musk ketone and Muscone in its odour.  Muscenone is one of the most powerful commercially available (non-captive) macrocyclic musks, with an odour detection threshold as low as that of Galaxolide. Description from Firmenich: "A very elegant nitromusk type of odor reminiscent of Musk Ketone, with a slight animal but natural undertone.   A very powerful musk with two facets. At low dosages (0.05 to 0.5%), it is a fragrance enhancer. Above this level, it is used for its musky character in addition to its boosting effect. It has excellent substantivity on fabric, hair and skin; imparting a musky, powdery, cosmetic softness.” Here's Arcadi Boix Camps writing in 1999: “... Muscenone delta is animal, strongly musk tonkin, and plays a role in the natural product's odor, perhaps a more important one than Muscone.   The same thing happens when smelling a rose-flower fragrance, where the smell of damascenone and beta-damascone is almost as strong as the scent of beta-phenylethyl alcohol or citronellol, although they are present in minute traces. Muscenone delta smells of the most animal-like part of deer musk powder or musk absolute, if made. All of these unsaturated macrocyclic musks are incredibly strong, and accords we made in the past mixing cresols with Exaltolide or Muscone and are now much finer and more elegant when using Muscenone delta or chemically related products.   It is being widely used in fragrances such as Bulgari for Men.”
