Description and usage notes: Another isomer of Xylenol, like 2,6-Xylenol, 2,5-Xylenol is also found naturally occurring in Whisky,  Coffee and Oud, and has a similarly low odour threshold, and is therefore offered here at 1% in TEC.  In comparison to the band-aid note of 2,6-Xylenol, this ingredient is somewhat closer to the scent of Guaiacol. Though when compared directly to Guaiacol (both evaluated at 0.1%), 2,5-Xylenol is less sweet, less vanillic, less floral. Instead it feels drier, darker, more burnt, and a touch more medicinal-phenolic. The odour profile is quite complex, in comparison with m-cresol which feels simpler, more direct, and more animalic. Like 2,6-Xylenol and 4-Ethyl phenol, it is a very useful ingredient for building or modifying an Oud accord. It also works extremely well with other smoky, leather or woody ingredients - for when Guaiacwood oil or Cade oil aren’t quite doing the trick.
